We now have Individual Consciousness inside a larger Global Consciousness field. That changes the access problem.
If the two are already related, Individual Consciousness does not need to “leave the body,” cross physical space, and arrive somewhere called Global Consciousness. The useful model is orientation and access, not travel.
1. Awareness is the access capacity
We define awareness as a capacity of Individual Consciousness.
Awareness can be oriented toward ordinary sensory experience, thoughts and memories, bodily sensation, another person, a question, a past-oriented target, a future possibility, or Global Consciousness more broadly.
This is different from claiming that awareness literally moves through physical space. In the model, the relationship is already present. The question is where awareness is oriented.
2. Intention provides the target
If awareness is the capacity, intention is the targeting instruction.
Consider the difference between “Show me something” and “What should I understand about this specific decision?” The second request constrains the target.
AWARENESS = capacity to access
INTENTION = what is being targeted
Intention does not guarantee an accurate result. It simply defines the direction of inquiry.
3. Coherence governs access quality
We use coherence as a central working variable. At this stage, coherence does not mean a separate substance or energy field.
Operationally, it means something closer to:
the degree to which the conscious and embodied system is internally organized rather than fragmented, noisy, or conflicted.
In the access model, greater coherence is hypothesized to improve signal clarity, stability of orientation, coupling quality, resistance to cognitive contamination, and integration of what is received.
Coherence is not another layer in the ontology. It is a proposed state variable that affects the quality of access and coupling.
4. Mental noise is embodied competition
When we say “quiet the mind,” our canonical terminology needs translation. We do not mean turn off Individual Consciousness. We mean reduce the dominance of competing brain/body-generated content.
Examples include internal speech, planning, memory activation, expectation, fear, desire, sensory distraction, compulsive pattern completion, and imagined answers.
That content can be useful in ordinary life. During an access attempt, it can compete with a weaker incoming signal.
5. Attention and awareness are related but not identical
In cognitive neuroscience, attention refers to mechanisms that prioritize information for processing. Our metaphysical model uses awareness more broadly as a property of Individual Consciousness.
So the embodied brain can influence where attention is allocated, while Individual Consciousness is modeled as the capacity that can orient awareness.

Notice what is missing: there is no little consciousness object flying out of the skull. The model is relational.
7. Practice follows directly from the architecture
If this working model is roughly right, practice should emphasize:
- clear targeting
- reduced embodied noise
- increased coherence
- careful separation of raw signal from later interpretation
The fourth item becomes the next Door, because an access experience is only useful if we can distinguish what arrived from what the brain subsequently did with it.
Doorway to Door 9
Suppose access occurs. Something arrives. How does non-sequential information become an image, a sentence, a body sensation, a symbol, or a direct knowing? And how do you distinguish the signal from the brain’s interpretation of it?
That takes us to Door 9: Access, Translation, Symbols, and Discernment.
